FREAY is a collection of handbags and accessories that are proudly crafted in the heart of New York City.
Born in Houston Texas and of Colombian heritage, Sandra Teresa Freay began her fashion career as a graduate of the prestigious University of Texas Textile and Apparel program. Sandra’s early fashion experience was as a clothing product specialist with the luxury apparel retailer Neiman Marcus. After learning the inner-pinnings of fashion merchandising, Sandra decided to pursue her own design dreams and graduated from the renowned Parson’s School of Design in New York.
Soon after, she obtained a prestigious internship with Rag and Bone’s handbag and accessories departments, under the mentorship of co-founder David Neville. During this time, Sandra embarked on her first trips to Colombia, traveling back and forth from New York, and falling in love with the art of handbag making. Since then her career has led her to work with various companies, designing all types of accessories ranging from handbags, belts, and jewelry.
In the fall of 2014, Sandra launched her namesake label, FREAY.
FREAY is a reflection of the eclectic taste and temperament of its designer. A traveler at heart, her line is infused with global influences that are practical in design with an overall urban flavor.
Mochila Mochila by FREAY is a complementary line of South American artisan hand-woven bags that originate from the Arhuaco tribe. Made only by the strong hands of women, this craftsmanship involves special weaving techniques that have been passed down for generations. Freay mochilas cherishes and preserves this ancient craftsmanship while fusing a new design approach to the modern day world. All mochila bags are one of a kind and made of organic wool.
